Annual Event

Balloon Release   Candle Lighting   Annual Conference
Each May, the Livonia Chapter has a Balloon Release . Members, families, and friends are invited to write notes regarding their child(ren), attach the notes to a balloon, and release it.
Compassionate Friends celebrates an international candle lighting the second Sunday of December. At 7:00 pm, in each time zone, candles are lit in memory of our children. The Livonia Chapter Candle Lighting is held outside in a park in downtown Plymouth. The names of the children are read and a short program takes place. In addition, there are usually two trees that are decorated with the names of the children that are a part of the annual program.
Each summer the National Compassionate Friends organization sponsors an annual conference. The conference which takes place in different cities throughout the United States is two days of workshops (over one hundred of them) that covers many topics of grief for parents, grandparents and siblings. On the third day, the conference culminates with a Walk to Remember in which conference attendees, friends and family are welcome to join in a walk to commemorate their children. The 2016 conference will take place in Scottsdale, AZ.
